hqdefaultI’ve always felt like there was something special about Saturdays. I mean, Sundays have their place and a weekday when everyone else is at work has its own kind of magic, but Saturdays hold  extra promise. It may have something to do with the hold over from Friday nights (when a person can feel most free depending on their work situation) or it could be tied in with my childhood era of Saturday mornings with cartoons, cereal, and cold hockey arenas. Even though every day job I’ve ever had includes some or most Saturday shifts, when I have a Saturday free, there is little like it.

Radio used to be So Important to Me

realistic_patrolman_sw_60_12_779_749860I was struck with a thought the other day while trolling Youtube for new content. I am a huge Youtube viewer. That is to say, I am a huge viewer of the channels that I like. Some of the content that really grabs my attention is about old technology, vintage computers, and for some reason, radio. There’s something about the service and the technological object themselves. I have an old Realistic short wave radio that used to be my grandfathers. I used to turn it up way too loud (for the little speaker) when I would mow their lawn way back in the day. I have a nice Sony boom box that I use as my computer speakers that I picked up a few years ago. And I also have the tuner on my stereo system which was a very generous hand-me-down from my oldest brother when he upgraded so many years ago. Continue reading “Radio used to be So Important to Me”

The Real Story and A Live Show

16603026_10154327471585983_1164355251568661204_nLast week I rushed to get out what I thought my big Toronto reading was going to be like. As you may have suspected, I was a bit off. In hindsight, breaking into the Roger’s Centre is a lot harder than I thought. Trying to sneak in hundreds of people would be quite the challenge. Instead, I focused on the reading itself and things turned out well. Not key to the city well, but here we are. The folks at ChiZine were not only welcoming, but enthusiastic and fun!
