Updating the Whiteboard

Blog Post No. 483

16712021_10209705097076960_157467507659745574_nSome years ago, I was at Arvin‘s place and I saw that he had a whiteboard set up on an easel with all his many to do lists scrawled across its surface. It would have been in our university days and probably in the midst of Wii Like To Podcast production. I thought the idea was great. A non-permanent place to write reminders that was clearly visible. My family had a whiteboard set up by the garage door when I was little, but it was rarely used, and at the time, I certainly didn’t have a need (or at least the wherewithal) to keep notes or a schedule.

It’s Come to This

Blog No. 398

a9843fb1c0d2370a2f20647b8c0268edI’ve tried hard over the last few years to avoid writing posts about not having anything to write about. I relied on that strategy around this time for several years until I started doing more events and got into writing reviews about them. Maybe those event recaps aren’t the most interesting thing to read, but I hope they’re better than constantly commenting that I have no ideas. With no events to rely on and the Invasion Novel still not finished, I don’t think I have much of a choice but to ramble my way through another post without having much to say. Or, maybe I’ll find a good topic right at the end and have something to expand upon next week. Continue reading “It’s Come to This”

Let’s Do an Update

Blog No. 328

b82928d729f43f461be1de52451c79348c3b15872f37d1f0915b06fccab0e9d7It’s March. Like, already. Every year things move ever faster towards the inevitable. But until then, let’s talk about what’s going on with my various projects. The obvious one is The Neon Heart, but there’s a novel in there, various events, Flags and High Fives, my progress towards ebooks, the day job, and probably something else. (I’m sure I’ll come up with more as I write this). We also seem to be in the middle of another cold snap (at least when the sun isn’t out). I’m not going to say that that has a huge impact on my writing and all those other things, but I’m not going to say it doesn’t. Enough delays (I suppose) time to get to the nitty-gritty. Novella and Novel Update

Blog No. 305

img_20180923_090213_2331Last night was the Third ChiSeries Windsor of the year. It’s the sixth that we’ve had overall, though there was some confusion on why we only did three last year. The answer is because we were invited to start hosing locally after the time the first one would have been. Normally, I write up a perspective post about the event, assuming everything is going to be super-awesome-rad, but I have other things I think can fill a post, so I’m going to try and leave it for next week and see how much I can remember. I still think it’s going to be a good night. I wouldn’t be able to suffer through the disappointing events if I didn’t. We have three great authors (two I know are good people and I assume the third is as well) and the musician is not only a nice guy, but he’s really good at the music stuff too. With that out of the way, I’ll move on the the topic of this post. A good, old fashioned update. Continue reading “Novella and Novel Update”

First Update of the Year

Blog No. 269

original_e731d5468841973b53676da4de72a682Even though it’s just the start of 2018 and admittedly, I didn’t have a stellar 2017, I am happy to say, I think I have enough on the go to do a proper update. The dust hasn’t quite settled on the last book (though, I pray it will finally be over this week) I am hard at work on the next one. This may all be old hat to avid readers of my blog (namely my folks) but it may be new to you. Either way, this may be the definitive rundown and I have some concrete things to say about it. I can’t give a specific date for when it will be out (not only have I been burned with that before, but I’m already waiting for some things that are out of my control before I can get it finished) though, I hope it will be out in the next couple months. Last Update of the Year?

Blog No. 210

giphyI don’t want to jump the gun with that title. I don’t expect to have another update until January, but if you’ve spent any time reading this blog, you know I can’t be trusted. The fact is, I’m getting so close to finishing the first draft of Pilot that I don’t know if I it would be worth doing another update of it. While I’ll be thrilled that I finished (long than planned, but here we are) and I’m sure I’ll want to share it with the world, if it’s too close to now, it would feel weird. Maybe? But I’ve been holding off on an update and I don’t think I can’t wait much longer, so I don’t want to just wait until I’m done. (Even thought I probably just should). I’ve gone too far now anyway, so I’ll just keep plugging forward! Tally Ho! Continue reading “Last Update of the Year?”

Update

Blog No. 204

ch940921In January, I decided to stop writing the book I was working on and started writing another one. The idea was that I would be able to knock out 40 000 words in a few months and have myself a finished novella. It took me until the end of July to reach my original goal, but by then, the story was nowhere near done. I shifted gears and from then on I’ve called the story a novel (or short novel) and had the intention of hitting 60 000 words. From the beginning of August (sitting at near 40 000 words) to the end of September, I struggled to get another 10 000 words. It was a rough time. I did poorly. Continue reading “Update”

Original Goals

Blog No. 191

I’m tired today—unbelievably tired. I haven’t felt this exhausted in a long time. I can’t even remember when I was this wiped out. It’s not like I did anything extraordinary. I have had a few nights that went later than usual (some my fault, a few definitely not) thought that’s not terribly unusual. Perhaps the number of night in a row has become abnormal, but they really weren’t so late. The heat has affected my sleeping, and I have been sleeping poorly on top of that (for reasons I’m not allowed to know apparently). There seems to be no end in sight (for either the lack of sleep, or today, which is dragging like one of those dredges, or maybe an anchor). I’m not sure what that has to do with anything other than it’s the most prominent thing in my life today. When you’re tired, everything else seems to fade a bit. The amount of red squiggly lines I’ve had to go back and correct is absurd. Continue reading “Original Goals”

Update

Blog No. 180

The other night I was in the car with my brother as he drove us to our weekly class at Boarder City Boxing Club. I made note that I didn’t have anything to write about for this week’s blog. Undeterred, he offered several suggestions that I summarily shot down with little thought.

“Why not write about us boxing?” he asked.

“I’ve already talked about it, besides, we’re not really boxing, just conditioning.”

“We’ve started playing Resident Evil 5. You can talk about that.”

“Sure, but Christian is doing this whole horror videogames thing on his blog and the last one was all Resident Evil.” (christianlaforet.com/2016/04/27/digital-death-part-2/)

“Gee man (paraphrasing). I don’t know then.”

“Meh. Thanks for the help, but I think I’ll just do an update. I’m due for one anyway.” Continue reading “Update”

200 is a Wonderful Number

Blog No. 175

Clearly since this is my 175th post, the 200 doesn’t refer to this blog. That said, 175 posts is not bad (and rather close to that other wonderful number). As should be clear by now (given the topic of my last bunch of blogs) in January No Light Tomorrow was release. It is my first book and Christian’s second. It was a lot of hard work and took a super long time to make. We’ve been promoting it like crazy, starting with the launch, hitting some comic-cons, signing at some signings, and we have a bunch more on the way. So far, as of this week, we have currently sold over 200 books. Considering we started with an initial run of 500 (and we’ve given away a few to family, etc) that’s a heck of a start for three months. Continue reading “200 is a Wonderful Number”
