I’ve Discovered Something – Else

Blog No. 349

20190710_121516As you know, I’ve been trying to suss out some of the reasons as to why my writing productivity plummets in the summer. I think I was on the right track with the chaos that the Day Job brings this time of year and with the usual uptick in events (that hasn’t happened this year). There’s also the serious issue that the people who I go write with become unavailable (kids and stuff) so it becomes much easier to just put off writing or even cut my sessions short (where I’m about finished but the other person is still going so I managed a little more). There’s this other thing, though, and I don’t think it has anything to do with the season. Continue reading “I’ve Discovered Something – Else”

Back to Normal?

Blog No. 291

j8zgobsModern medicine is a miraculous thing. I go to a lot of public events and get a lot of unsolicited comments about how doctors are evil, medicine and pharmaceutical companies are there to get you sick, and other nonsense. I try to rally against it when I can (often times the person yelling is a brick wall). If it weren’t for my doctors and medication, I wouldn’t be here. If it weren’t for the antibiotics I’m currently taking, I’d probably still be sick in bed. I’m not. Pneumonia seems to be something that hangs on for a while, but I’m not bedridden anymore. It’s great. I did miss a lot of good writing time, but over the last week, I’ve done really well with the time I have. I pulled off nearly a chapter a day for four days. It’s a good feeling. Fifth Year Anniversary Recap Thing!

Blog No. 268

hqdefaultThat’s it. Five full years of weekly blog posts with hardly a hiccup. There was that one week where it went up on a Saturday instead of the Thursday (and I will forever live with the blemish) but other than that, I’ve done a weekly post since January 2012. I didn’t know what to expect when I started this thing, and to be honest, some weeks are a real drag, but getting to look back on it now, I’m pretty proud of the accomplishment. Even if it’s one very few people would ever set out to do (and my numbers are really nothing to write home about. Speaking about numbers, I failed to top 2016’s record breaking stats, but I came pretty close this year. Plus, I didn’t have a book out in 2017 until the end, and even that has been tough to get out to people (due to continued printing issues). I’m guessing that had some part to play. But I was still close enough to make the prospects for 2018 positive. Continue reading “Fifth Year Anniversary Recap Thing!”

Under a Pile of my own Doing

Blog No. 230

south-park-season-4-episode-9-1-8bf0The other day I was listing off all the things I had to do in the next couple of months to my friend and my brain almost broke. I know I have no one to blame but myself, but I had to go on an overnight trip to get far back enough to see it all. And that’s not including editing Pilot (which I haven’t started) or my day job. I’m starting to get a little stressed out. Easter was a nice distraction, but come hell or high water, this week has to be one where I work until my fingers fall off. It may be a struggle though, because I’m working every day already. I’ll just see how much I can get done after dinner and before bed. It’ll be like having homework again. Thrilling. January Writing

Blog No. 219

zzzzzzzzzzzzOver the last few months, I found myself in a situation where I had to push my writing in order to reach my goal. It was my fifth (or eighth?) goal of the year for the same project, but I was determined to get the first draft of Pilot done before 2017 started. The result was a continued increase in my writing productivity. I was feeling pretty good about it. I went from churning out a pathetic five to eight thousand words over the previous few months to a respectable ten thousand (plus) words in October, November, and December. I even made a last day thirty-five hundred word push to get the first draft done. It was the icing on the cake, even thought it was way over my initial plan (in time and word count). The consistency and increase in volume, even at the end of the year, helped get me on the right path. then January happened. Cliff Hanger! Continue reading “January Writing”

Settling into the Year

Blog No. 216

hqdefaultThe day has finally arrived. After years of slaving away on this blog, tirelessly writing new posts every week, touting the possible advantage of such an endeavor, Christian “I’m too good for a Schedule” Laforet has committed to regularly scheduled posts on his own blog. It used to have a cool name, now it’s much more practical. Go check out ChristianLaforet.com, his first post is up as I write this, and he may get his second of the year out by then. I’m not sure exactly what to expect. I know it’s not going to be like this blog (where I ramble on about nearly coherent topics each week) so you should just see if it’s for you for yourself. Yearly Recap ATTACK!

Blog No. 215

sogpb5vHere we are on the other side of a year (my busiest one yet). It’s been a slow and steady slog with nary a misstep. Once again I have managed to write a post a week for the whole year. This makes number four in a row, and number three with out a flub. It’s an accomplishment not often desired and even more rarely achieved. Still, when you set a goal, no matter how unimportant it may be, it’s a good feeling to come through in the end. I didn’t let myself down. At least not with the blog posts. In fact, I managed to have my best numbers of the year! Most views (by a little bit) and most visitors (by a ton)! Continue reading “Yearly Recap ATTACK!”
